The Good Doctor star Hill Harper to exit show
The Good Doctor star Hill Harper is exiting the series as he is running for a US Senate seat in Michigan.
Hill, who has appeared on the show in the role of Dr Marcus Andrews since 2017, will be departing the medical drama to focus on his political campaign (via TVLine).
The actor hopes to secure the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s open senate seat after incumbent Debbie Stabenow vacates it in 2025. The current Democratic senator will be completing her fourth six-year term next year.
“Hill Harper feels strongly that there is a crisis in American
democracy — too often, government only works for the rich and powerful while the rest of us struggle to find a voice,” Harper’s campaign spokesperson told TVLine.
“Hill is dedicating his efforts full time to fixing that, and he’s running for the US Senate as an active union member to give working people more of a voice in Congress.”
Prior to his role opposite Freddie Highmore in The Good Doctor, Harper appeared in CSI: NY as Dr Sheldon Hawkes, in Limitless as Spelman Boyle and in Homeland as Chief of Staff Rob Emmons.

Meanwhile, The Good Doctor spinoff The Good Lawyer has been axed after it was introduced as a backdoor pilot during the main show’s recent sixth season. ABC decided not to move forward with the series, set to star Desperate Housewives‘ Felicity Huffman in her first role since serving time in prison for her involvement in the college admissions scandal.
Huffman played dry-witted lawyer Janet Stewart, a role she was set to reprise in the spinoff alongside Nancy Drew‘s Kennedy McMann.
