Standout hit “beyond the typical medical drama” is now streaming on Netflix – don’t miss out!
It’s a brand new year, and if you want to ring it in by watching something that’s not exactly old, but began last decade and wrapped up last year, you’re in luck. All seven seasons of The Good Doctor has now been added to Netflix in the UK.
Running between 2017 and 2024, the show follows Freddie Highmore’s Shaun Murphy, a surgical student with a form of autism (savant syndrome), and an ensemble cast of medics.
Although it was released during the streaming era, it’s got that classic US network television meatiness, with 18 to 22 episodes in each season — except for the final season, which only has 10 — and 126 episodes overall.
If you’ve not got Netflix, all episodes are also available on Sky/NOW, while the first five seasons are free on Channel 4’s streaming service.
The show was previously available with a Prime Video subscription, and you can still buy the show digitally through Prime Video, Apple TV, Sky Store and others.

Despite being popular enough to run for seven seasons, The Good Doctor hasn’t received a lot of attention from critics, with only the first season having enough reviews for a Rotten Tomatoes score (63% positive from 43 write-ups).

From these early reviews, IndieWire praised Highmore’s “committed, layered turn” and stated that a few plotlines “stand out beyond the typical medical drama”, although noted that it wasn’t “essential TV”.
The Guardian wrote that the show provides the “guilty pleasures” viewers look for in their TV shows, citing the “earnest storytelling, very attractive actors doing very noble things, and characters who tug at our heartstrings”.
That piece also noted that The Good Doctor received praise for its depiction of autism, something that changed as the show went on. TIME did a lengthy piece about the “frustrating” depiction of autism, noting how clips from the show went viral in 2023 with people mocking how the condition was portrayed.
Despite all of that, the show has an average user score of 8/10 on IMDb. from over 126,000 ratings.
