Grey’s Anatomy star Kate Walsh has defended Eric Dane’s friends setting up a GoFundMe for the late actor’s daughters.

Dane died on February 19 after battling ALS. The beloved actor is survived by his two daughters, Billie Beatrice Dane, 15, and Georgia Geraldine Dane, 13, with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.

Following Dane’s death, his friends set up a GoFundMe for his teenage daughters. Like with James Van Der Beek’s GoFundMe following his death on February 11, there was a lot of backlash over Dane’s GoFundMe given his success as an actor.

However, his former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Walsh has come out to defend the GoFundMe with a brutally honest yet compassionate message. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Walsh shared a photo of Dane with Georgia and Billie, which was also used on the GoFundMe.

“A lot of people (I know in a time when we ask so much of everyone to help with all the things) are under the microscope that actors are rich, but when they go thru these debilitating illnesses they go thru their funds. Thank you for even considering to help,” she wrote below the photo.

Over 3,000 people have donated to Dane’s GoFundMe, including Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and his wife, Ashley Levinson, who have the top donation to date after giving a staggering amount.

“Following his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for fellow patients and to push for greater awareness. Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease. As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs,” reads part of the message on Dane’s GoFundMe.

The initial goal was for $250,000, but that was surpassed within a day, so a new goal of $500,000 has been set. Gayheart used her Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of the GoFundMe page and express her thanks to all who have donated.
